On the afternoon of April 28th, the departure ceremony of the 10,000th sea-rail multimodal block train via the New Western Land-sea Corridor was held in CRIntermodal Qinzhou Terminal in Guangxi Autonomous Region. With the sound of a whistle, a freight train carrying containers of cargos including rice from Yingkou, magnesium oxide and quartz sand, etc., departed from the port operational area of Qinzhou Terminal. The freight train, which was the 10000th block train via the New Western Land-sea Corridor, had arrived in CRIntermodal Chongqing Terminal on the 30th of April.
Since the April of 2017, the New Western Land-sea Trade Corridor, newly explored and constantly improved for four years, has developed into an international trade corridor that facilitates the western development campaign, connects the “Belt and Road” trade routes and supports western regions participating in the international economic cooperation. CRIntermodal Qinzhou Terminal, the landmark project in Guangxi which breaked the “last kilometer” bottleneck of sea-rail multimodal transport for the New Western Land-sea Corridor, plays a crucial role on the development of block trains via the corridor. After the opening of Qinzhou Terminal, the container handling capacity of the terminal was raised to 1.05 million TEUs per year comparing to the yearly capacity of 150 thousand TEUs by the previous Qinzhou East Terminal, and the daily loading-and-unloading capacity was raised to more than 20 trains per day from 5 freight trains per day, providing a solid foundation for the rapid development of block trains via the corridor.
