First International China-Laos Freight Train Departed on New-year Day

发布者:中铁联集
At 15:10 on January 1st, with a loud whistle, a train, loaded with 1,000 tons of goods, departed from the CRIntermodal Kunming Terminal and bounded for Vientiane, Laos, which was the first international freight train departed on the China-Laos Railway in the new year.

At the beginning of the new year, with sufficient sunshine in Kunming, also known as the Spring City, CRIntermodal Kunming Terminal, located in the suburbs of Kunming, was as lively as usual. Large trucks passed the intelligent gate inspection system one by one. On the freight yard, the staff load the container onto the train with reach stackers. After a busy morning, all 30 containers were loaded.
In the beginning of December 2021, the China-Laos Railway was put into operation, with a total length of more than 1,000 kilometers. It starts from Kunming in the north, passes through Mohan railway port in China and Boten railway port in Laos, enters northern Laos, and finally reaches Vientiane, the capital of Laos.
“Before China-Laos Railway was open, it would took about 3 days for the goods to be shipped from Kunming to Vientiane; after the opening of the railway, the ship time from Kunming to Vientiane is only about 30 hours," said He Hengjun, head of Wangjiaying West Railway Station of China Railway Kunming Railway Bureau Group.
Yunnan is the only province of China that borders with Laos. The China-Laos Railway plays as a corridor that helps Laos out of the dilemma of a landlocked state, which is a remarkable achievement of the Belt & Road initiative.
According to the statistics of China Railway Kunming Group, as of December 31, 2021, 380 freight trains that carried 150,000 tons of goods  had been operated via China-Laos Railway though it had been put into operation for less than 1 month. In addition to products along the China- Laos Railway within China boundary, cargoes from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and other cities were also transported to Laos via China-Laos Railway.
“In the beginning, after the opening of the railway, cargoes shipping from China to Laos were mainly feed and chemical fertilizer. Now, more and more categories of goods are transported, including electronics, communication equipment, Yunnan vegetables, etc., which can better meet the market demand of Laos," said Xu Chao, deputy general manager of CRIntermodal Kunming Branch. With the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) coming into effect on January 1, the China-Laos Railway will play a more prominent role in facilitating the mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Laos, and the freight volume will certainly increase steadily.
Under the sunshine of the new year, the international freight train of the China-Laos Railway set off smoothly, which would continue to benefit the people along the railway in the new year.
